Vinitaly International Academy Verona 2021

@ Veronafiere - Verona

With 60 candidates from 16 countries and regions, Vinitaly International Academy got back to its original home, for its 18th edition held from 20th June to 23rd June 2021, following the new hybrid format of VIA. With the online theory classes continu-ing, candidates came together in Verona to be led by Faculty members through ad-vanced seminars and intensive practical sessions to prepare for the examination. This edition of certification course was part of the special “Vinitaly Marathon” which was highlighted by the 5StarWines – the Book from 16 to 18 June 2021 and the Operawine on the 19th of April. On June 20th, the Vinitaly Preview took place, host-ing selected wine producers from all over Italy. As the flagship certification course of VIA, this edition was featured by the extremely diverse candidates from all over the world. Being hosted during the exciting array of events, this edition represented the golden opportunity to really understand and learn Italian wine, engaging with leading Italian wine producers and creating a global wine business & education network.
The candidates went through a 4-day intensive course with the VIA Faculty headed by Henry Davar IWE and Francesco Marchio IWE. VIA’s chief scientist, Prof. Attilio Scienza, for the first time delivered a series of advanced seminars as the complemen-tary knowledge to the online lectures covering 20 Italian wine regions. The guided tastings of 96 archetypal wines and 6 additional masterclasses in collab-oration with our supporters give our candidates the opportunity to really understand and learn the differences between each grape variety and wine, as well as the confi-dence to talk about what each wine, the wine tasting session of this edition was also strengthened by the participations in Operawine and 5starwines (for selected candi-dates). The application to the course was open to wine professionals all over the world, ap-plicants were required to provide relevant wine education certificate as well as stating their motivation to participate the course. USA and Russia contributed the biggest group of candidates.
